Advanced Breast Thermography

Breast health remains one of the single biggest health challenges, particularly for women. One in 7 women born after 1960 are expected to be at risk of developing breast cancer at some time during their lifetime. This compares with 1 in 870-lifetime risk for men.

Advanced Breast Thermography at Taylor Grey uses state of the art technology, which scans the breasts using an infrared camera to produce a “thermogram”.

Benefits of Advanced Breast Thermography

  • 100% safe

  • Radiation-free

  • Non-contact

  • Very early detection of breast health risks (up to 5-10 years earlier than other scanning procedures)

  • Suitable for all women aged 20+

  • Suitable for women with breast health implants, dense breasts or sensitive breasts

  • Studies show 91% sensitivity when properly conducted (other scanning techniques show 76% sensitivity). This means that where there is an increased risk, AI-Enabled Breast Thermography can correctly identify this in 91% of cases.

  • AI thermal imaging can detect minute variations in temperature, helping to identify potential changes before they may become visible through other screening techniques.

It is unique in its capacity to visually record physiological changes and metabolic processes.

  • Our Breast Thermography service can be repeated as often as required given there is no exposure to harmful radiation. It is therefore particularly suited to regular and frequent breast health checks.

Your personal information and images are handled with the same level of confidentiality as your consultation. Our systems follow strict medical-grade data security (ISO-27001, CQC & GDPR) and ethical governance standards, ensuring that what you share with Taylor Grey stays secure.

How does Breast Thermography work?

Upon arrival to our Knightsbridge clinic, you will be asked to fill in our forms for your female consultant. Please be advised that these will ask about your medical history and any supplements or medications you take, We typically ask for patients to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scan.

Your Breast Thermogram will take place in our breast thermography room with our female scan technician. As part of the procedure, the room is cooled to around 18 degrees, so we will try to be as fast as possible with taking the images.

We take the first set of images and then start a 10-minute cooling period where our scan technician will explain the procedure and ask/answer any questions which you may have.

Understanding Your Breast Health

Until now, access to AI-enabled thermal breast imaging has been limited, yet its value in women’s health is widely recognised around the world.

Taylor Grey is proud to be among the first in London to introduce this safe, contact-free screening technology.

We do not recommend Advanced Breast Thermography if:

  • You had a mastectomy (this includes single-sided mastectomy).

  • You have had a breast lumpectomy within 3 months of the procedure.

  • You have had a breast reduction/enlargement within 3 months of the procedure.

  • You have had a breast biopsy (including needle biopsies) within 3 months of the procedure.

  • You have had radiotherapy in the last 6 months of the procedure.

  • You are breastfeeding or pregnant. We advise you to book your thermogram 6 months after stopping breastfeeding.

  • Once your thermography session is complete, your images are securely and anonymously analysed by our clinical system before being reviewed by one of our qualified consultants. This process ensures complete confidentiality and accuracy at every stage.

Your results are then discussed with you in person or over a private follow-up consultation. We believe in explaining every detail clearly, without unnecessary jargon - helping you understand your own body and make informed choices about your next steps.

If anything needs further clarification, Taylor Grey offers point-of-care ultrasound on site. This means your consultant can carry out a secondary visual check immediately, eliminating uncertainty and avoiding delays in reassurance.

  • Our medical device for breast screening (Thermalytix®) is FDA-approved and CE-Marked to be used adjunctively with Mammography.

We do not promote thermography as a replacement of mammography for the following reasons:

    1. They are fundamentally different in what they uncover.

    • Mammography can detect an established physical mass in the breast (about the size of a small grape).

    • Thermography detects metabolic and vascular thermal changes that occur sooner than a mass is established.

    • A normal mammogram does not mean you have healthy breasts only that there is an absence of a structural lesion.

    • A normal thermogram indicates that you have physiologically healthy breasts.

    2. A mammogram may still be a necessary investigation where there are both physical and thermal changes in the breast.

If anything needs further clarification, Taylor Grey offers point-of-care ultrasound on site. This means your consultant can carry out a secondary visual check immediately, eliminating uncertainty and avoiding delays in reassurance.

  • Your thermography results can complement mammograms, ultrasounds, or other investigations carried out by your specialists. Together, these provide a broader and more complete understanding of your breast health.

We also support continuity of care - ensuring that your records, reports, and images are handled securely and can be shared with your existing healthcare providers if you wish.

By integrating modern imaging with compassionate consultation, Taylor Grey brings a new level of refinement to women’s preventative care.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Advanced breast thermography and mammography are fundamentally different breast scanning tools. Mammography is an X-ray examination that detects structural changes in breast tissue, such as physical masses or tumors, typically about the size of a small grape. Breast thermography, on the other hand, uses infrared technology to detect physiological changes, such as abnormal heat and vascular patterns in the breast tissue. While mammograms focus on anatomical changes, thermography assesses the functional status of the breast.

At Taylor Grey, it’s used as part of a preventative approach - helping women stay informed about their breast health through regular observation and education.

  • When breast thermography is conducted correctly and according to approved standards it can detect breast cancers with 90-95% accuracy. Further investigation will be necessary to confirm a diagnosis. As stated above, not all thermal abnormalities indicate an existing cancer but if these changes remain over time they represent an increased risk of future development of breast cancer.

  • At Taylor Grey, we take every result seriously - and we also understand how worrying unexpected findings can feel. To ensure accuracy and avoid false positives, we will repeat the thermogram for confirmation before taking any next steps.

If the results remain consistent, we’ll immediately carry out a point-of-care ultrasound at our Knightsbridge clinic for further evaluation. This is done on the same day, so you’re never left waiting or worrying. Our clinical team will talk you through each step, explain the findings clearly, and help decide if any further imaging or follow-up is needed.

  • We recommend an annual breast thermogram, similar to a regular dental check-up. Breast health can change significantly over the course of a year, and individuals with abnormal scans or a history of breast cancer may need more frequent evaluations. If you receive a normal score, a repeat scan is recommended in 12 months. For those scoring TH3 or above, we advise a follow-up in 6 months.

  • Yes, some patients undergoing cancer treatment use thermography to monitor their breast health. However, it is important to discuss this with your Thermography provider to ensure appropriate monitoring strategies.

  • You’ll begin with a short consultation to discuss your health history and answer any questions. You’ll then be guided into a private suite for imaging. The room is kept at a steady temperature to allow the body’s natural thermal patterns to settle.

A series of gentle photographs are taken using a medical-grade infrared camera. The process takes around fifteen minutes.

Your consultant will then arrange a follow-up appointment (often same-day) to go through your results and what they mean for you.

  • Absolutely. Many women choose to use thermography alongside mammograms or ultrasounds. Together, they offer a more complete understanding of breast health over time.

  • Yes, having a family history of breast cancer can increase your risk. It’s important to discuss your family history with your Thermography provider to determine appropriate monitoring strategies.

  • If you’ve had a mastectomy, the software used for thermography typically compares each breast to the other to detect abnormalities. Without two breasts to compare, accurate assessments cannot be made.

  • Pregnancy affects the blood vessels and hormonal balance in your breasts, which can lead to misleading thermography results. Therefore, scans during pregnancy are not recommended.

  • Taylor Grey is one of the first clinics in London to offer advanced breast thermography as part of a dedicated women’s health programme. We combine modern imaging with compassionate, individual care ensuring that every woman feels safe, respected, and informed.

Our focus is not only early detection, but also education, reassurance, and long-term support.
